Shambhala Yoga Center's owner Shannon Brandt is passionate about humanitarian causes. We are all family! She is always involved in community outreach as well as international outreach, and believes that we should all be given the opportunity to connect and help others in a lot of different ways. Here you can find an up to date list of the specific outreach causes she is working on. Her hope is that you will find something that makes giving back easy and accessible! Please contact the studio with any questions you may have regarding these projects. Also, if you would like to volunteer, any and all help is needed and appreciated. OM SHANTI!
There is a camp near the Syrian border that needs our help....the only help they receive is through a charity started by Shannon Brand and Nisreen Nasser. Without this organization many children in this camp will die from exposure over the winter. Please take time to read about this cause and to consider a donation. Solidarity Through Humanity
Shannon created a local outreach program to provide the opportunity for people to come together and give back in a very personal way. Team Kindness collects toiletries, socks, gloves and other personal necessities, bags them up and gives them out to homeless and displaced individual in the tri-state area.
Shannon has an ongoing project that works with one local family in crisis. The family changes when their needs have been met and they are no longer struggling. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a profound difference in your community. Due to privacy and respect, the names of the families are not listed unless agreed to. You can read their stories here (when Shannon has a new family she is working for), and what you can do to help.
Maya Gottfried's books for children Good Dog (Knopf), and Our Farm: By the Animals of Farm Sanctuary (Knopf) both lovingly celebrate the individual personalities and unique spirits of animals through poetry. You can find Maya's books both online and for sale at the studio. Part of the proceeds from Good Dog will go to ARF a Beacon animal rescue foundation, while part of the proceeds from Our Farm will go to Farm Sanctuary in upstate New York. The sanctuary is currently home to more than 500 rescued farm animals.
